Tomlinson, Flournoy 2015 BGCCV Hall of Fame Inductees

At a ceremony to be held at the National Infantry Museum on February 19, 2015, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley (BGCCV) will honor two community leaders whose contributions and successes have had a significant impact on the development, evolution and growth of the organization as well as the community. John F. Flournoy and Philip (Phil) W. Tomlinson will be inducted into the BGCCV Hall of Fame during the 2015 Youth of the Year Celebration as the Service to Youth Inductee and Club Alumni Inductee, respectively. 

For over 46 years, John Flournoy has been recognized as a leader for his service on the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley Board of Directors. Throughout his time working with the organization, he has served as a productive chair of most every committee of the corporate board of the Boys & Girls Clubs in Columbus. His dedicated service to the organization garnered him recognition from the National Boys & the Girls Club Association, including the Southeast Region’s Bob Fowler Pacesetter Award for Leadership Excellence and the Bronze Medallion Award. Both of the awards were in recognition for his active devotion in the Boys & Girls Club of the Chattahoochee Valley and the state of Georgia. 

Mr. Flournoy serves as the acting Chairman and CEO of Flournoy Companies and has over 45 years of experience in real estate dealing with strategic and day-to-day roles at the Company. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Business School. His community leadership roles have varied from being past president of the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley and Chairman of the Columbus Gateways Committee since 1981. Having received 15 air medals for his service in the United States Marine Corps and the Marine Reserve Fighter Squadron and participation in the Southeast Conflict, he has shown determination and leadership in every project he has been involved. 

Phil Tomlinson has served on countless boards one of which is the Board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley. He has led in various capacities in the community, including the Georgia Tech Advisory Board, the Board of the American Cancer Society, the United Way Board, the Muscogee Educational Excellence Foundation, Georgia Economic Development Board and the executive committee of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, serving as chairman in 2006. In 1974, Mr. Tomlinson joined Columbus Bank and Trust (CB&T), after a successful career with General Electric Corporation. 

Since TSYS first started, Mr. Tomlinson has played a major role in almost every major decision and relationship that has shaped the company’s development. Having retired in 2014, he is currently involved with CSU’s Foundation Board, the University Leadership Board, Advisory Board, and the Turner College of Business Advisory Board. As CEO, he moved the company’s strategy of technological growth and advancement into making TSYS in the company it is today. 

In addition to his role as Chairman of the Board for TSYS, Tomlinson also serves on the Board's Executive Committee. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Synovus Financial Corp., and serves on the Risk Committee. A graduate of Louisiana State University’s School of Banking of the South, Mr. Tomlinson has received an Honorary Doctorate from Columbus State University and the recipient of the Turknett Leadership Character Award and the Ernst and Young Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Flournoy and Tomlinson have both helped raise the standards and level of professionalism in the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley’s movement while inspiring and mentoring future generations. They have always valued the importance of the organization and shared a commitment to the continuous development and improvement of its services to the youth of the Chattahoochee Valley leading to their induction as the 2nd class of inductees into the BGCCV Hall of Fame.
