Columbus State University to Hold Virtual Conferring of Degrees May 15th

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Tuesday, May 12th, 2020

Columbus State University President Chris Markwood and Provost Deborah Bordelon will virtually confer degrees for Spring 2020 graduates on May 15 at 3:30 p.m. Graduates and their families are invited to watch the program online at graduation.columbusstate.edu.

The Spring 2020 Commencement Ceremonies were postponed due to guidance from the CDC related to COVID-19. In anticipation of the University System of Georgia allowing the campus to be reopened by August, CSU plans to host an in-person graduation ceremony on August 8, 2020. In addition to this alternative, if the circumstances require a cancellation of the August event, the university plans to host a ceremony just for the Spring graduates during the December commencement program.

“We are deeply proud of this very special class of students, who have overcome great odds to complete their degree during this challenging time,” said President Chris Markwood. “There are few experiences that are as important to them — and us — than celebrating their graduation together. We are disappointed that we can’t be physically present to do that this month, but we look forward to our virtual ceremony this week and our delayed in-person ceremony scheduled for August.”
