United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley kicked off its seventh annual Stuff The Bus school supply drive on Thursday afternoon.

Stuff the Bus engages communities in helping elementary students k-2nd grade get the tools they need to learn and succeed in school. Last year, 7,578 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to all Title 1 schools in Muscogee county and eight counties across our region including Harris and Russell Counties, as well as schools in Phenix City.

“We are fortunate to live in such a generous community,” said Denise Guthrie, Coordinator of Special Events at United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley. “This is the seventh year we have held our Stuff the Bus School supply drive. Each year, we are blown away by the donations and efforts of our corporate partners and volunteers. This year presents its own unique set of challenges, and we know our community will work together to meet those challenges. Every person involved helps to make this initiative successful for our local children and families,” she added.

United Way Stuff the Bus will kickoff virtually this year on Facebook and YouTube Live. Though the drive looks different due to Covid-19, the need for school supplies is greater than ever. The event included two principal testimonies on how Stuff the Bus impacts their students and recognized company sponsors of the program. The majority of school supplies are donated by our corporate partners. Companies interested in helping Stuff The Bus can contact United Way to get started.

Supplies will be collected until Thursday, July 22nd at designated drop-off sites in the community, including PMB Broadcasting (1820 Wynnton Rd #2930, Columbus, GA 31906) and by appointment at United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley (1100 5th Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901).
