BETTER WORK Network Hosts Event Nov. 4th Announcing New Partnership With Jobs for Life

The BETTER Work Network is hosting an event Nov. 4 that will feature Ryan Ray, president and CEO of Jobs for Life, in a discussion on how our communities can come together to address regional challenges, create employment solutions, and take critical first steps toward healing our nation through the power of work.

In Columbus, 11,406 people are unemployed, despite more than 6,500 job openings. The problem is not an issue of availability but an issue of access. There are personal, educational, and systemic barriers that prevent some of our neighbors from working or thriving at their jobs. Without work, many begin to identify themselves with their circumstances which creates a vicious cycle of poverty—economically, spiritually, and emotionally.

That is why the BETTER WORK Network is announcing a new partnership with Jobs for Life. The goal is to provide not only access to job opportunities, but wraparound services that impart the soft and hard skills needed to thrive. The Nov. 4 event will take place at Victory Mission First Baptist Church in Columbus from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

“Work allows everyone to find their value in the community,” said Kristin Barker, program manager for BETTER WORK Columbus. “This isn’t simply about what we do. It’s also about who we are and who we are created to be. Our mission is to serve the unemployed and the underemployed in the greater Columbus, Georgia community through these Jobs for Life training sites. Each site will be equipped to provide students with the skills needed to better themselves and to find a career that can make a positive impact on their lives. This mission is supported by a partnership of churches and nonprofits who share our passion for working with people to help them thrive and is implemented through meaningful discussions, mentorship, and hands-on skills training.”
