New Columbus State, Columbus Tech Partnership to Enhance Transfer Student Success

Wednesday, November 10th, 2021

Columbus State University and Columbus Technical College have announced joint participation in a one-year initiative designed to support transfer student success.

The Aspen-AASCU Transfer Student Success and Equity Intensive is an initiative that advances practices and policies to further improve existing transfer efforts. During a monthly workshop series, leaders of community college and four-year institutions meet to improve outcomes and success for transfer students. Also included in the initiative is one-on-one consultation with experts to support transfer efforts, assistance identifying and understanding critical transfer outcome and equity data, and elevation of transfer student success stories.

CSU and CTC leaders will expand upon knowledge to make the academic pathway from community college to bachelor’s completion seamless for students.

“Columbus State and Columbus Tech are excited to work together to serve students in the Chattahoochee Valley,” CSU Provost and Executive Vice President Deborah Bordelon said. “Our collaborative participation in this Transfer Intensive will provide us with a variety of proven strategies to ensure a streamlined transfer process and engaging academic experiences for all transfer students.”

This innovative program is funded by Ascendium, a nonprofit education loan guarantor that works with students to manage their loans responsibly.

The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), of which CSU is a member, is an association of approximately 400 colleges, universities and systems that advocate for student and community advancement. With core values including student success, innovation and social mobility, its goal is to enhance student access and success while solving community challenges.

Columbus Technical College is a two-year public college and a part of the Technical College System of Georgia. CTC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and supports economic empowerment of its six-county region by focusing on teaching and developing a globally competitive workforce. CTC provides traditional, distance learning, and training experiences for career development and transfer.
