2016 Partners in Education Awards Recognizes Projects and Partnerships

Partners In Education, a program of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce, recognized the Top 10 partnerships for the 2015-2016 school year at Green Island Country Club on May 10, 2016. Recognized schools were selected by an independent panel of judges and honored at the 2015-2016 Partnership Awards Banquet.

The accomplishments of these schools were shared with the audience in a video produced by Shaw High School. The goal was to share best practices so they can be incorporated into other partnerships.

Projects of the Year:

  • Success factor #1: (Improving Academic Performance) Fox Elementary with Burger (Schuster Enterprises), Brookstone School and Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church.

  • Success factor #2: (Growing Career Opportunities) Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary with 203rd BSB, Clear Channel Radio, Delta Sigma Theta, Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, St. Mary’s Road United Methodist Church, Legacy Dealership, and Buffalo Soldiers Motor Cycle Club of Columbus, GA, for their "Girls Rock" project

  • Success factor #3: (Enriching the Lives of Students) Faith Middle School with Directorate of Emergency Services, 209th MP Detachment, Troy University and HHC 3-11th Infantry Officer Candidate School.

  • Success factor #4: (Developing and Enriching Faculty Development) Kendrick High School with Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, Warrior Training Center BN S1, and Eddie L. Roberts American Legion Post 333.

  • Wynnton Arts Academy with Junior League of Columbus, Wynnton United Methodist Church and Communicorp

  • Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy with TSYS and the Kiwanas Club of Greater Columbus

  • Blackmon Road Middle with Chick-fil-A (Bradley Park), Columbus Technical College, Morningside Baptist Church and 2/16th Calvary Regiment

  • Don C. Faith Middle School with Directorate of Emergency Services, 209th MP Detachment, Troy University and HHC 3-11th Infantry Officer Candidate School

  • Aaron Cohn Middle School with Pratt & Whitney, Liberty Mutual, Chick-fil-a Midland, and Moe’s Southwest Grill Midland

  • Shaw High School with TSYS, Mediacom, University of Phoenix, WTVM and Freeman & Associates

  • Wilson Elementary with HHC 2/11th

  • EA White Elementary with Officer Candidate School (OCS) and Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC)

  • South Columbus Elementary School with CB&T and the Warrior Transition Battalion.
