More than 9,000 new employers have used the Georgia Department of Labor’s Online Tax Registration System to set up unemployment insurance tax accounts.

The online tax registration system is one of State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler’s initiatives to improve the level of online services to employers and job seekers. The system, launched in January, gives new employers a quick and easy way to register their businesses.

Employers who have used the system report a positive experience when creating their accounts. They have called it “user-friendly” and “time-saving.” When employers register, they are able to receive their tax liability determination upon submission.

"It's our goal to minimize red tape for businesses starting in the state of Georgia and that's why we've created the online registration process," said Butler. "I've heard from employers across the state that it's more convenient and easy to use. We continue to update technologies to make it easier to employ Georgians."

Additional GDOL online service improvements made under Butler’s direction have made it possible for employers to file quarterly wage and tax reports, pay taxes electronically, monitor their accounts, post job openings and search for qualified employees. Job seekers and workers can now go online to file unemployment insurance claims, change account passwords, and use Employ Georgia to search for jobs, and create and post resumes.
