575 CSU Students, Employees to Participate in Saturday’s Day of Service

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Friday, August 19th, 2016

Nearly 575 student, faculty and staff volunteers from Columbus State University will serve 17 different non-profits at 21 locations for the university’s eighth annual Day of Service.

From 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, August 20, volunteers from across campus will give back as part of an annual tradition at Columbus State University designed to celebrate the start of a new semester while reinforcing strong ties between the university and the community.

“Day of Service is CSU’s way of kicking off the school year the right way - by giving back to the community,” said Anne Brown, community outreach advisor in CSU’s Office of Community Outreach. “It is yet another way for students to connect with friends and faculty while using their skills to make a meaningful impact at these organizations.”

CSU President Chris Markwood and his family will help add a fresh coat of paint to the walls of the Springer Opera House. Cougar athletes will landscape homes for military families and widows through House of Heroes, and hundreds of other Day of Service volunteers will be stationed at Paws Humane, Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center and other not-for-profit organizations in the Chattahoochee Valley, ready to lend a helping hand.
