It’s Official: Sonny Perdue New USDA Secretary

Late Monday afternoon, the U.S. Senate finally confirmed former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue as the country’s 31stagriculture secretary by a vote of 87 to 11. The vote was the culmination of a three-month process involving hearings, the completion of much paperwork, and an Easter holiday delay. 

Perdue, a farmer’s son and a working farmer who briefly practiced as a veterinarian and spent time in the U.S. Air Force, will have the task of crafting the new Farm Bill at the top of his to-do list when he moves into his office at the USDA.
