Khashimov Plays Brahms October 21st

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Thursday, October 19th, 2017

The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present “Khashimov Plays Brahms” on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 7:30 PM. Prize winning violinist, Nadir Khashimov, returns to Columbus to play Brahms’ only violin concerto.

Also programmed are Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastorale” and Grieg’s Two Elegiac Melodies.
Maestro George Del Gobbo comments, “Brahms and Beethoven… it just doesn't get any better. Brahms' violin concerto is thought by many to be the most profound composition for that combination of solo instrument and orchestra. Beethoven's unique "pastoral" symphony is a sublime expression of the joys of man's relationship with nature. Throw in some lovely string music by Edvard Grieg and the amazing gifts of violinist Nadir Khashimov and this will be a concert to remember.”

A past performer with the CSO and student of the Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music, Nadir Khashimov’s expressive and charismatic style has made him one of the most accomplished and versatile violinists on the international music scene today. In 2006, at the age of just 16, Mr. Khashimov won the 2nd prize at the prestigious Paganini Competition in Moscow. After which, he also won major competitions such as Sarasate in Spain, George Enescu in Romania, Washington International in the US, Michael Hill in New Zealand, Yankelevitch in Russia, among others.

“Khashimov Plays Brahms” is presented by Aflac, Boomer 102.5, 103.7 Lite FM, and WLTZ.  Open Dress Rehearsal will begin Saturday, October 21st at 12:30 PM. We encourage attendance from all members of the community, including those who are unable to attend the evening concert or looking for a “behind-the-scenes” experience into the ensemble. It is a great way to introduce your children to a live musical experience. Continuing the tradition, this informal and all-inclusive atmosphere is breaking the financial barrier by encouraging attendees to “pay what you want.”  Audience members set their own prices to eliminate hesitation and allow new viewers to partake in the music being created by the CSO.

Attend Know the Score prior to the concert, at 6:30 PM in Studio Theatre. Know the Score is a casual pre-concert conversation with Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo that is sure to provide more insight into the repertoire on the evening’s concert.

Concert tickets range from $5 - $38 and may be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM or one hour prior to the performance (enter doors located on Broadway). Student tickets are available for $10. Tickets for children under 12 years of age are $5.
