Dr. Cynthia T. Anthony to Address CVCC Graduates at Commencement May 11th

Dr. Cynthia Anthony, Executive Vice President and Dean of Students at Lawson State Community College, will be the commencement speaker at Chattahoochee Valley Community College’s graduation on May 11.
 
Dr. Anthony earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Talladega College.  She received both her Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and her Master of Education degree in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.   Dr. Anthony completed her Doctorate in Educational Leadership through a joint program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama. She received UAB’s Department of Education’s Outstanding Alumni Award in 2005.  She is a graduate of the Executives in Residence Program at Birmingham Southern College, the Mississippi Community College Fellowship Program, the Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership, and Leadership Bessemer.
 
Because of her exceptional leadership skills and commitment to the mission of the Alabama Community College System, Dr. Anthony was appointed to serve as Interim President of Shelton State Community College as well as Interim President of Enterprise State Community College.

She has been employed in postsecondary education for twenty-eight years and has served in numerous capacities – all with a focus on students and increasing educational opportunities for them. Dr. Anthony’s diverse involvement and leadership roles throughout the Alabama Community College System and on the national level have given her a broad perspective, making her a well-rounded, insightful and intuitive leader.
 
CVCC president, Jackie Screws, says, “We are honored to have Dr. Anthony join us for this occasion and look forward to the message she has for our graduates.”
 
There are approximately 270 students eligible to graduate, with 130 opting to participate.
 
The faculty marshals will be Ms. Shelly Holt, program director for medical assisting and Mr. Clint Langley, program director for applied technology. Student marshals include Ms. Tammy Carey and Mr. Phillip Adam Bender.
 
The Chattahoochee Valley Community College graduation ceremony will take place Friday, May 11, at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.
