Tuesday, September 4th, 2018

Andrew College’s volleyball team played a vital role in the rescue of trapped and injured people at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident. The team was traveling south on I-85 on the evening of August 22, 2018 near Columbus, GA when a car came across the median and hit the minivan traveling in front of them.

Driver of the Andrew College van, Assistant Baseball Coach Trevor Wren immediately pulled over to assist as members of the volleyball team called 911.

Volleyball Coach Donna Rountree ran to help a woman trapped in a car as smoke was pouring up from the floor board. The front end of the car burst into flames as she struggled to open up doors. Calling for help, she received the assistance of a motorist who was able to help get the trapped driver out and take her to safety by the Andrew College van.

At the same time, Coach Trevor Wren was involved with getting three injured women out of the minivan.

First responders arrived on the scene and volleyball players helped them care for the injured woman from the car. At least two more vehicles were involved in the pileup as the Andrew College team assisted with the rescue.
