GED Open House at Columbus Technical College to Help Adult Learners Start 2019 on the Right Foot

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Wednesday, November 28th, 2018

If you or someone you know wants to earn his or her GED, the time has never been better.  That’s because the Adult Education Division of Columbus Technical College will be hosting a special Open House on Monday, December 3rd.  Anyone wishing to apply for free GED classes is welcome to stop by the first floor of the Columbus Tech library building at the main campus on Manchester Expressway anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for a one-stop process.  Applicants over 18 years of age will just need to show a valid ID while those under 18 years old need to provide the ID, a school withdraw form, and have a guardian co-sign their paperwork.  After a quick intake process, everyone can go ahead and take their GED placement test in order to start 2019 with a commitment to earn their GED.

Anyone can apply for GED classes at any time through the Columbus Technical College website but this Open House is geared for those who may not be able to do so or who may have just not gotten around to it. This is the first such Open House sponsored by the Columbus Technical College Adult Education Division.  Organizers want to make this process as user-friendly as possible.

“By hosting an Open House, we hope to bring in folks who may not have the access to a computer to apply online or who have limited computer ability,” said April Hopson, director of adult education. “This drop-in, one-stop-shop concept is geared to get people excited about starting the next chapter in their lives.  We want to remove as many barriers as possible to allow our community educational access.”

Columbus Technical College provides education services to residents in six counties: Chattahoochee, Harris, Muscogee, Quitman, Stewart, and Talbot.
