Columbus Technical College Diagnostic Medical Sonography Students Announce 100% Pass Rate

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Every member of Columbus Technical College’s current class of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) has set themselves up for future success by passing a rigorous exam administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).  The Obstetrics/Gynecology assessment was the second of two required tests that measure a student’s knowledge and skills in sonography. The students passed the first exam in Sonographic Physics and Instrumentation last summer. By passing both tests, the soon-to-be graduates will enter the workforce armed with an important designation.

“Both of these exams must be passed in order to earn credentials to be a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS),” said DMS program director Regina Ridgley.

The class of eleven students are on track to complete their associate degree program at the end of this semester but Ridgely says they are already being courted for career opportunities that come with healthy salaries.

“We are so proud of these students,” she said. “Many of them have already been offered jobs in the greater Columbus area.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Georgia is $63,150 (source: https://www.bls.gov/oes/2017/may/oes292032.htm#st).
