Wednesday, June 12th, 2019

United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley kicked off its sixth annual Stuff The Bus school supply drive on Tuesday morning.

Stuff the Bus engages communities in helping at-risk youth get the tools they need to learn and succeed in school. Last year, 5,764 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to all Title 1 schools in Muscogee, Harris and Russell Counties, as well as schools in Phenix City.

“We are fortunate to live in such a generous community,” said Denise Guthrie, Coordinator of Special Events at United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley. “This is the sixth year we have held our Stuff the Bus School supply drive. Each year, we are blown away by the donations and efforts of our corporate partners and volunteers. Every person involved helps to make this initiative successful for our local children and families,” she added.

United Way announced key dates for Stuff the Bus and recognized company champions and sponsors of the program. The majority of school supplies are donated by our corporate partners. Companies interested in helping Stuff The Bus can contact United Way to get started.

There will be two community-wide collection days. The first community-wide collection day is on Saturday, July 13th from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the Walmart on Airport Thruway. The second community-wide collection day is also at the Walmart on Airport Thruway, time and date are TBD.

Supplies will be collected until Thursday, July 18th at designated drop-off sites in the community, including the East Alabama Chamber of Commerce (1107 Broad Street, Phenix City, AL 36867) and United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley (1100 5th Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901).
