CSU Announces New Dean of Libraries

Columbus State University is very pleased to announce that Dr. Alan Karass will become CSU's new Dean of Libraries. Dr. Karass will join CSU in August 2019.

"As Dean of Libraries, Dr. Karass will bring to Columbus State University a deep understanding of the role the library plays in student success and the overall student educational experience," said Dr. Deborah Bordelon, provost and executive vice president. "Through his leadership and vision, the university libraries will continue to develop as the central intellectual hub of CSU and provide outreach and programming to all of the units on campus as well as our community partners."

Karass comes to Columbus State University from Boston, where he served as the Director of Library Services at the New England Conservatory. He brings to Columbus State University nearly 30 years of leadership experience in libraries and music, including time as a lecturer in ethnomusicology and leading summer study tour groups to Tunisia. Karass is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Library Association and the Music Library Association. Karass earned a Ph.D. from Open University in Ethnomusicology, an M.A. in Historical Musicology from the University of Connecticut, an M.S. in Library Science from Simmons College, and a B.A. in Music from Clark University.
