State Representative Kevin Tanner (R-Dawsonville), Co-Chair of the Georgia Commission on Freight & Logistics, announces that the commission will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Georgia Department of Transportation Headquarters at One Georgia Center located at 600 West Peachtree N.W. in Atlanta.

“Georgia has numerous competitive advantages when it comes to transportation and freight infrastructure, but we cannot afford to grow complacent,” said Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge). “This commission will work with industry stakeholders to find ways we can move freight more efficiently and create jobs in the process. I have full confidence that Chairman Tanner, Chairman Beach and the other commission members will focus their attention on this pressing economic development issue.”

Representative Tanner, who also chairs the House Transportation Committee, said, “The House has kept transportation needs front and center for our growing state, and that would not have been possible without Speaker Ralston’s leadership. I am ready to get to work on this next frontier in our continuing efforts to keep Georgia moving.”

State Senator Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta), who co-chairs the commission and also serves as Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, said, “The Speaker has led on transportation funding, transit and now is leading on freight and logistics. Having his commitment to transportation and infrastructure issues has been instrumental to Georgia being the envy of the rest of the country. I want to thank him for his vision and leadership, and I look forward to working with him as we move forward.”

The Georgia Commission on Freight & Logistics was established by House Resolution 37, which was adopted in the 2019 legislative session. The commission will issue its report to the Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House by December 31.
