United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley seeks to increase awareness of its 2-1-1 Information and Referral Line’s Opioid Texting Service, which allows a person to receive information relating to opioid addiction through text messaging. The service is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Several monthly observances in September and October correlate with opioid addiction/abuse. With September being Pain Awareness Month and National Recovery Month, and October being National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, 2-1-1 is eager to get the word out about this much needed service in the community.

By texting “opioid” to 898-211, individuals can receive general information on opioids, and find opioid abuse/addiction resources for a friend, family member, or themselves. There is also an option for service providers to seek information regarding opioid abuse or addiction. This texting service also features ongoing support messages. If an individual prefers calling instead of texting, they can dial 2-1-1 at any time to speak directly with a Resource Specialist.

2-1-1 can provide ongoing resources for those affected by opioid abuse or addiction.
