Boys & Girls Clubs Of The Chattahoochee Valley To Host Grand Opening Of New East Boys & Girls Club November 6th

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Friday, November 1st, 2019

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley (BGCCV) is celebrating the grand opening of the new East Columbus Boys & Girls Club location.  Formerly located at 1429 Morris Road, BGCCV purchased the old Edgewood Elementary School in Spring 2019.  After extensive renovations the club relocated and began serving youth in the new location in August 2019.  The move to this new location has allowed BGCCV to serve more youth and teens in the East Columbus Community.   The East Columbus Club is one of five club locations here in the Chattahoochee Valley.

BGCCV will host its Grand OPENING on Wednesday, November 6th at 3:30 p.m. at The East Columbus Boys & Girls Club: 3835 Forrest Road.  There will be local government officials, members of the Chamber of Commerce, and many of the donors whose support has made this milestone possible. The schedule will include, a welcome by President & CEO of BGCCV, Rodney Close, a ribbon cutting, followed by group tours of the facility, and light refreshments will be served.

The old Edgewood Elementary School has a rich history and legacy in the community.  BGCCV is pleased to continue the use of this facility to serve the children in the East Columbus community.  The facility is 48,000 square feet of which 30,000 is currently occupied with Boys & Girls Club programing.

One of the centerpieces of The Great Futures Capital Campaign is the new East Columbus Club. Our growth, along with our focus on more intentional programming, rendered our former facility inadequate in terms of the community’s need and the organization’s long-terms goals. While the former facility served us well, the condition, layout, and space limitations made operations very inefficient and did not allow us to provide the breadth of programs we know our club members need. The new facility is 48,000 square feet as opposed to the former facility which was 8,000. The new space offers tons of flexible program space and also includes a cafeteria, larger gym, tween, and teen center.
