The Chattahoochee Council, Boy Scouts of America has continued to develop and deliver a quality Scouting Program to the youth in our community during this pandemic. Programs have shifted from in- person to virtual programs, such as, Virtual Backyard Camp-outs, 30-day challenges, virtual meetings and virtual advancements. Their ability to adapt and continue to provide programs has been possible because of the dedication of their volunteers and staff.

Over the years, we have been dedicating keen attention to camp development and program enhancement. Last year, the Council received a grant from Callaway Foundation to improve our facilities at Camp Frank G. Lumpkin, to accommodate females in Scouting. These developments are of utmost importance, as we keep our Scouting families in mind. Callaway’s contribution supports not only camp developments but also the local Scouting program, a program that serves over 3,000 youth and instills a strong sense of responsibility and character and encourages our youth to become leaders in their communities.

Only July 8 , 2020 these new developments were complete, and a ribbon cutting was held. “Thanks to Callaway Foundation, we were able to erect two new bath houses, renovations to the pool and additional changing rooms, and a new restroom facility in the shooting sports area - projects that we would not have been able to complete without their support and belief in the Scouting program” said Juan F. Osorio, local Boy Scouts of America CEO.

Like many organizations, Scouting has undergone several changes due to COVID-19, however, Scouting has been resilient and has been able to continue to provide a quality program to our youth during these challenging times for all. Callaway’s generous donation will help Scouting continue to thrive and positively impact our local families.

Callaway Foundation President, Tripp Penn, added, “Our Trustees are excited to see this project completed and to continue to support the legacy of Scouting and the Chattahoochee Council. Camp Lumpkin is a gem to our children and our region, we look forward to having current and future generations of boys and girls learn the values of Scouting and foster a love of the outdoors.”
