CVCC’s Instructor to Speak at CSU Virtually
Friday, October 23rd, 2020
Dr. William Byrd, History instructor at Chattahoochee Valley Community College, will speak virtually at Columbus State University for CSU’s Department of Earth and Space Sciences Seminar on Thursday, October 22. Byrd will present a seminar titled "The Transformation of the Alabama Wiregrass: The historic impact of human activity on the longleaf pine ecosystem of Southeast Alabama." According to Byrd, this unique ecosystem has been dramatically shaped by human activity.
“It might seem odd that I am speaking at a science seminar, since I am a historian and geographer,” said Byrd. “However, my primary study has been on the complex interaction between people and the land... in particular how people historically shape the landscape and how that in turn effects society.”
Dr. Byrd has worked in K-12 and higher education for more than 25 years, teaching at Brookstone School and Chattahoochee Valley Community College in that time frame. Byrd received his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees from Auburn University.
