Muscogee County School District will Continue Choice Model Plan with Early Release Dates

The Muscogee County School District has announced that it will continue to implement the choice model instruction plan following the scheduled Thanksgiving and winter breaks.  Starting December 22, 2020, the District will also observe an adjusted calendar with early release dates for all students.

To prepare accordingly for potential shifts related to developing COVID-19 patterns, the District has asked parents to ensure each student brings his/her device and instructional materials home during the Thanksgiving and winter breaks, place each device in a safe place to avoid damage or theft, and consider any alternate plans required for childcare in case of emergency changes.

As the choice model plan continues, parents have also been advised to make any final changes to their declarations for in-person or virtual instruction before 12:00 noon, December 8, 2020. Declarations will remain in effect the full spring semester, January 6-May 21, 2021, due to testing and end-of-year preparation.

In effort will provide teachers additional time for planning, collaboration, providing student feedback, grading, and parent/student conferencing, etc., students will be released 2.5 hours ahead of their regular schedule on the following days:

  • Tuesday, December 22, 2020

  • Wednesday, February 3, 2021

  • Tuesday, March 16, 2021

  • Thursday, April 15, 2021

  • Friday, May 21, 2021

All students will have access to transportation as regularly provided. Students will also observe school lunch prior to dismissal.  Parents should plan for after-school arrangements to ensure timely dismissal.  The dates were approved by the Board of Education during the November 16, 2020 work session. The District will continue to monitor the local COVID-19 status as advised by a local panel of medical professionals and in accordance with guidance from the Public Health Department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). All updates to the District’s COVID-19 plans will made available on the District’s COVID-19 website.
