Columbus Technical College to Hold Historic Commencement Ceremony

Staff Report

Tuesday, December 15th, 2020

Columbus Tech is celebrating its students with a unique graduation ceremony on Tuesday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be many COVID restrictions in place including: no guests inside, a limited number of graduates participating in person with social distancing measures, temperature checks, and the mandatory wearing of masks. The decision to restrict access to only graduates and key staff members came Monday based on the increased COVID positivity rate in our area.

“We greatly regret the inconvenience and late changes,” said Columbus Tech President Martha Ann Todd. “But the health and safety of our students and their loved ones comes first.”

To make sure as many loved ones can witness the ceremony as possible, Columbus Tech will be providing a link to a live feed. Guests of graduates who already have tickets will be permitted to stay in their vehicles in the Civic Center parking lot to watch the ceremony on a big screen. Everyone else may watch a live stream anywhere by either visiting https://avmedia.live/columbus-technical-college-fall-2020-graduation/ or by downloading the Livestream.com app on any smart device and search for “Columbus Technical College.”

Students who successfully completed their studies in spring, summer, or fall of this year were invited to participate in Tuesday’s graduation. To keep the number of attendees within the number allowed according COVID-related health and safety guidelines, students registered their desire to participate in person in advance of the ceremony.
