Columbus Technical College is proud to announce it has been awarded a $9,000 grant from the national Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Monies from the grant will be used for the Integrated Education and Training (IET) Program through Columbus Tech’s Adult Education Division. IET helps students secure a training credential in the work-ready areas of OSHA training, forklift safety, and first aid/CPR.  

Students enrolled in the three-week course will gain the competencies and knowledge needed to move into new or advanced roles while acquiring relevant skills for the inevitable changes in industries. 

“Workforce is the essential component of the community’s economic development plan which is very critical right now; this grant allows our program to be a part of that plan,” said Vice President of Adult Education April Hopson. “Our students face countless financial obstacles and with these trying times, those challenges can be even harder to overcome. This grant means anyone that participates in our program can earn a training credential.”

Hopson said her office applied for the grant in January and was alerted of the approval in May; Columbus Tech is one of just four colleges in the Technical College System of Georgia to be named a recipient.

This year, Columbus Tech has seen 27 students acquire all three training credentials (OSHA, Forklift and CPR). The next cohort of students starts in the fall.
