Friday, September 24th, 2021

The National Gallery of Art’s annual Wilmerding Symposium will take place from September 22 to September 23, 2021. This year’s Symposium will be part of a celebration dedicated to renowned artist Alma Thomas on the 130th anniversary of her birth. The Symposium also coincides with the traveling exhibition Alma W. Thomas: Everything is Beautiful, co-curated by Seth Feman, Ph.D., Deputy Director for Art and Interpretation and Curator of Photography at the Chrysler Museum of Art, and Jonathan Frederick Walz, Ph.D., Director of Curatorial Affairs and Curator of American Art at The Columbus Museum.

The Symposium kicks off this evening at 7 PM with a free virtual program, An Evening Celebration of Alma Thomas, featuring introduction by former First Lady Michelle Obama, virtual exhibition tour and remarks by Feman and Walz, as well as a poetry reading and discussion with poet Ross Gay. Viewers can sign up to register here.

See the Alma W. Thomas: Everything is Beautiful exhibition, in Thomas’ hometown, at The Columbus Museum opening July 1, 2022.
