Chattahoochee Valley Community has extended the application deadline for its Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing Mobility Program to October 8, 2021.

College officials say it is important to help meet the needs of the community as the demand for licensed practical nurses and registered nurses continues to grow.

“We consistently hear from our community healthcare providers that there is a great need for skilled, trained workers, especially in this time of a pandemic,” said Dr. Bridgett Jackson (Ed.D.), Director of Health Sciences. “There are several steps to the application process, so we want to ensure potential students who meet the qualifications have enough time to apply.”

The Practical Nursing program, in which students work toward becoming a licensed practical nurse (LPN), is a 3-semester curriculum that includes 20 credit hours of general education and 25 credits of nursing core coursework. Upon completion, students qualify to take the National Council Licensure Examination: NCLEX-PN. LPN’s generally work under the supervision of registered nurses (RN’s) and are qualified to handle many tasks to keep healthcare patients comfortable to include: monitoring and recording vitals signs, administering medications, providing wound care and other various nursing skills.

The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing-Mobility program is a 3-semester curriculum in which students who are currently LPNs or licensed paramedics have the opportunity to pursue a career as a registered nurse (RN). Upon completion of the program, students earn an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree and qualify to take the NCLEX-RN. Registered nurse duties include: supervising LPNs and unlicensed assistive personnel, administering and monitoring medications outside of the scope of the LPN, collecting lab work, and administering various treatments, just to name a few. The Direct Entry Associate Degree Nursing program is another program option for individuals to become an RN. The Direct Entry program applications will be available online December 6, 2021.

College administrators say there are scholarship opportunities available for those who qualify. For more information about these programs, call 334-291-4925 or email
