What’s the news? AT&T* boosted its mobile internet coverage at the University of Georgia’s Sanford Stadium with a new antenna system to give customers stronger connections.

Why is this important? We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. That’s why we’ve upgrading our network using a Distributed Antenna System (DAS). A DAS is made of numerous, small antennas that distribute AT&T wireless network coverage to provide extra cellular capacity and shorten the distance a call or text must travel. Simply put—calls, texts and posts are less likely to get stuck in a data “traffic jam.”  This means we are delivering the best possible experience over the AT&T network on game days in Athens.

What are the benefits to first responders? DAS also enhances coverage for first responders on FirstNet® – America’s public safety network – providing continued access to always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and preemption across voice and data.  FirstNet is the only nationwide, high-speed broadband communications platform dedicated to and purpose-built for America’s first responders and the extended public safety community. It is built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the federal government. The FirstNet network is providing public safety with truly dedicated coverage and capacity when they need it, on high-quality Band 14 spectrum. These advanced capabilities help fire, EMS, law enforcement save lives and protect communities.

How do we show commitment to our Networks? From 2018 to 2020, we invested more than $5.1 billion in our wireless and wired networks in Georgia. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents, first responders, businesses and tourists.

What are people saying? “This significant enhancement to our campus connectivity is perfectly timed as we once again get to cheer on our Dawgs between the hedges at Sanford Stadium,” said Kelly Kerner, University of Georgia Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations. “We appreciate AT&T for their continued investment in The University of Georgia, Athens and across our State and look forward to visitors and fans enjoying even better wireless experiences in-and-around Sanford Stadium.”

“Georgians love college football, especially sharing their game day experiences with family and friends,” said Venessa Harrison, president of AT&T Georgia. “At AT&T, we are proud of our 140 plus year history of investing in Georgia, including recent network enhancements at Sanford stadium, and look forward to our customers sharing more pictures, texts, calls, and social media posts while at the games.”
