The Columbus Museum Receives Southeastern Museum Conference Exhibition Award

Wednesday, October 13th, 2021

The Columbus Museum is pleased to announce they are a recipient of the 2021 Southeastern Museums Conference Gold Award in the Under $10,000 category for the exhibition And So She Did: Women of the Chattahoochee Valley. The SEMC Exhibition Competition showcases the best in our profession and provides benchmarks for regional exhibition efforts in southeastern museums

“As the Museum’s first exhibition focused on local women’s history, And So She Did: Women of the

Chattahoochee Valley is one of my favorite projects during my time at the Museum,” says Columbus

Museum Curator of History and Exhibitions Manager Rebecca Bush. “It offered opportunities to tell both

well-known and little-heard stories from a diverse group of women spanning nearly 200 years, using their

own personal artifacts and words. Though COVID made the run of this exhibition very different than

expected, I am grateful to the many community partners who helped us develop engaging virtual

programming, including Georgia Humanities, Historic Columbus, the League of Women Voters of the

Chattahoochee Valley, and Columbus State University.”

For many visitors, exhibitions are the public face of museums and effective planning, management of resources, research and interpretation, collections care, public programs, publications, and fund raising all contribute to the fulfillment of a museum's mission. Expectations and standards were exceptionally high for this year’s applicants. The SEMC Exhibition Competition received a record-breaking number of applications from a wide variety of museums across the southeast. page2image39415808
