Friday, December 17th, 2021

Colonel (Ret.) Ralph Puckett has been awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award upon nomination by the Chattahoochee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. This award is granted to Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years, have distinguished themselves in their life work and who have shared their talents with their communities on a voluntary basis.

Colonel Puckett has distinguished himself through his career retiring as a Colonel in the United States Army and through his continued service to God, his country, and other people by following the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. He has met community service needs through his voluntary actions.

Colonel Puckett served twenty-two years of active duty as a United States Army office, was the National Programs Director for Outward Bound, Inc., Founder of Discovery, Inc. in Herndon, Virginia, and Discovery Director at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, Colonel (Ret.) Ralph Puckett has received numerous awards and recognition through his service including the National Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, two Silver Stars, five Purple Hearts, and Ranger Hall of Fame. The National Eagle Scout Association Committee, under the direction of Alumni Relations at the Boy Scouts of America’s national office, selects the recipients of this award. The members of the selection committee are all recipients of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

The award will be present to Colonel Puckett on January 19, 2022 during the Columbus Rotary Meeting at 12pm at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.

The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award was implemented in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have received extraordinary national-level recognition, fame, or demonstrated eminence within their field, and have a strong record of voluntary service to their community. Previous recipients include President Gerald R. Ford, several governors and senators, military flag officers, university presidents, chief executive officers of Fortune 500 companies, and nationally known lawyers, educators, and doctors.
