The Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is delighted to announce their 2022-2023 Concert Season. Music Director and Conductor, George Del Gobbo commented, “The past two years have been most challenging for those of us who love live music. In the case of the Columbus Symphony, the orchestra has survived in relatively good shape. We are in sound financial condition and we are gradually returning to our normal schedule of live orchestral performances. We hope that, as time passes, the Covid era will become a vague memory. To hurry that process along, we are presenting a full concert season in 2022-23. We hope that you will join us as a season ticket subscriber.” 

The CSO kicks off the 2022-2023 season on September 17th with “Myths, Legends, & Folk Tunes.” Join the CSO as they showcase the largest orchestral setting offered in the last two years as they celebrate the legendary Firebird Suite by Stravinsky and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition as arranged by Ravel.

Young pianist, Evren Ozel, will make his CSO debut performing the ever-popular first concerto by Tchaikovsky on October 22nd with “Ozel Plays Tchaikovsky.” He is represented by Concert Artists Guild, as one of the Ambassador Prize winners of their 2021 Victor Elmaleh Virtual Competition and described as having “daring creativity and fierce passion” through his artistry. Celestial music by living composer Arvo Pärt and a lustrous symphony by Vaughan Williams complete the program.

“German Baroque” on November 19th will celebrate the most influential German musicians of the Baroque era with music from Handel, Bach, Telemann, and Fasch. Enjoy the intimacy of Legacy Hall and the artistry of CSO principal violist Josiah Coe. Fans of Bach will recognize his “Air” from Orchestra Suite No. 3.

On January 7th, the CSO will present “Beethoven’s Eighth” answering the question of what Beethoven did between his glorious Seventh and the cosmic Ninth symphonies. Hear the vivacious and quirky Eighth Symphony, music for oboe and strings by Vaughan Williams performed by CSO principal oboist Erica Howard, and a lively work by young African-American composer Jessie Montgomery.

Plan a Valentine’s weekend with tickets to a lovely evening of music as the CSO presents “Can This Be Love?” on February 17th. This charming concert will offer music from popular film scores exploring every aspect of that undefinable emotion plus the usual high jinks. Highlights include music from West Side Story, Lion King, Casablanca, Frozen, James Bond, Lord of the Rings, Sleeping Beauty, and more.

“Remembering…” on March 18th features music that finds its inspiration in our desire to remember: a departed loved one, a bittersweet history, and a gallery of dear friends. Award-winning violinist Stella Chen joins the CSO to perform Corigliano’s music composed for the film The Red Violin. Enigmatic pieces by Edward Elgar and American female composer Margaret Brouwer complete the concert.

In her return to the stage, perennial audience favorite Claire Huangci will close the season with a performance of Beethoven’s fourth piano concerto on May 13th titled “Beethoven & The Scottish.” Huangci is praised for her imaginative piano abilities and poetic interpretation. The concert concludes with Mendelssohn’s third symphony reflecting upon Scotland, its climate, and its culture.
