Columbus 2025 announces an open Call for Artists for a new public art project,  Painted Spaces, which aims to commission regional artists to install new murals across the Chattahoochee Valley. Local artists, art collectives, art students, and creatives of all skill levels are invited to submit a response for consideration by Friday, September 30.

This project will create community-inspired murals in areas that have limited access to public art, offer public art opportunities to local artists, and bring meaningful art to streetscapes, buildings, and schools. Columbus 2025 and selected artists will host several community engagement sessions, and artists will use input from these sessions to inspire their designs. Artists will be supported by Mural Liaison, Chris Johnson, who will provide guidance and direction throughout the design, production, and installation process, as needed.

Funding for this project is provided by Columbus 2025 through support from the Knight Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley.

"We’ve seen other cities embracing murals as a way to add vibrancy and connect communities through public art. Our Vibrant and Connected Places committee is leading this project to add investment in place-making and add vibrancy to neighborhoods across the region,” said Tabetha Getz, Executive Director of Columbus 2025.

Columbus 2025 is a broad collaboration across the Chattahoochee Valley between businesses, government, nonprofits, and citizens to strengthen our community. Columbus 2025’s guiding principles to increase prosperity, reduce poverty, and enhance quality of life are realized through work across five action areas. The Vibrant & Connected Places action area enhances quality of life by creating vibrant and connected neighborhoods and public spaces through numerous community projects and investment in public art.
