Columbus Technical College (CTC) is pleased to announce today’s opening of an onsite pantry intended to provide students with essentials like food and toiletries.

This effort is made possible through the use of Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) funds and a partnership with Feeding the Valley Food Bank. Donations include fresh produce, meats, canned goods, toiletries, beverages and much more.

Martha Ann Todd, President of Columbus Technical College said, “We want to provide every opportunity for student success and understand that barriers like food insecurity, food deserts and lack of daily necessities all hamper the ability to achieve. Our dedicated team at Columbus Tech is thankful for this partnership with Feeding the Valley Food Bank that will aid students who need this wrap-around support system.”

According to national reports from the Hope Survey, “Prior to the pandemic, a staggering 30 percent of all college students experienced food insecurity at some point in their college careers. Most recent statistics show that 38 percent of students in two-year colleges and 29 percent of students at four-year colleges reported experiencing food insecurity.”

Jennifer Shawa, Feeding the Valley Food Bank Development Director said, “Students juggle so many responsibilities in order to pursue their studies. We are proud to partner with the Columbus Technical College Pantry to ensure that hunger is not another pressure facing students and their families. The CTC Pantry is carrying on the tradition of doing whatever it takes to help students succeed, and we are so glad to be a part of this program.”
