Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) experienced record-breaking passenger numbers over the busy Memorial Day weekend, setting the single day screening record for 2023. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported airports nationwide witnessed a remarkable resurgence in passenger traffic over the four-day Memorial Day weekend. ATL contributed to those numbers as TSA screened 98,817 passengers on Thursday, May 25, making it the busiest one-day screening total this year and the third highest in the Airport’s history.

TSA screened nearly 9.8 million individuals at airports nationwide during the holiday weekend, an increase of approximately 300,000 compared to the same period in 2019. Friday's volume reached 2.74 million, setting a new post-pandemic single-day record.

Airport leaders expected to host 2.1 million passengers from Thursday, May 25, through Wednesday, May 31. The total amount of passengers who traveled through ATL will not be tabulated until mid-June when airlines submit their passenger reports, but TSA screening figures – documenting the number of travelers who departed from ATL – reflect a growing enthusiasm for air travel.

"We are happy to see pre-pandemic passenger numbers back at ATL,” said Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari." This signifies the resilience of the aviation industry and the unwavering determination of travelers to embrace the joy of air travel once again. We extend our gratitude to all passengers for their patience during the busy travel periods and to our employees and partners as we remain steadfast in our commitment to connect our community to the world.”

As the summer travel season progresses, Airport officials advise passengers to plan ahead, stay informed, arrive early and utilize the various online resources such atl.com and the Airport’s social channels (@ATLairport) to optimize their travel experience.
