Synovus CEO Kessel Stelling Named FSR Treasurer, Executive Committee Member

The Financial Services Roundtable announced yesterday that Synovus Chairman & CEO Kessel Stelling will serve as FSR’s Treasurer effective April 1st. The role also makes Stelling a member of the FSR Executive Committee. 

Stelling currently leads a wide ranging team of bankers, investment professionals and support teams for Synovus, a $27 billion asset bank, while ensuring the company remains closely focused on promoting a strong work environment, effectively managing risk and growing shareholder value.

“We are pleased that Kessel’s strong leadership skills and deep knowledge of the financial services industry will continue to serve as a guiding voice in this role on FSR’s board,” said FSR President & CEO Tim Pawlenty. 

Stelling is assuming the role from Tom Watjen, President and Chief Executive Office of Unum Group, who is retiring today, April 1, 2015.

Stelling was named Synovus President and Chief Executive Officer in October 2010. He became Chairman of the Board in January 2012. He began his career with Synovus in March 2006 when the company purchased Riverside Bancshares, Inc., and merged it with Bank of North Georgia.

He currently serves as a Board Member for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and is Vice Chairman of the Board of Regents for the University System of Georgia. He has been named to the list of “100 Most Influential Georgians” by Georgia Trend Magazine every year since 2009.
