The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present Prokofiev & Pictures on Saturday, September 26, 2015. At 7:30 p.m. the concert will commence with the orchestra performing Joesph Packales’ Tour/Retour – A Tango for Orchestra in Bill Heard Theatre at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $5 to $38 and may be purchased at the RiverCenter Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or one hour prior to the performance (enter doors located on Broadway side under covered drive to visit the box office). CSO Music Director and Conductor George Del Gobbo commented, “Prokofiev's First Violin Concerto was premiered in Paris at a time (1923) when Parisian audiences expected to hear something bold and modern. Prokofiev's concerto did not quite measure up as it is a work that begins and ends in a mostly ethereal manner. Nevertheless, it was well received by the audience and soon became a standard in the repertoire for violin.”
To learn more about the music being performed prior to the concert visit the CSO website at www.csoga.org. Listings of concert program notes complete with musical excerpts are available under each concert listing on the CSO website.
S’MORES – (Final Dress Rehearsal) for this concert is on Saturday, September 26, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. We encourage attendance from members of the community who are either unable to attend the concert or are looking to try out the orchestra. This informal and all-inclusive atmosphere is breaking the financial barrier by encouraging attendees to “pay what you want.” Audience members will set their own prices to eliminate hesitation and expose people who have not had the capabilities to partake in the music being created by the CSO. There is no ticket reservation, for more information visit csoga.org or call (706) 256-34645.
