Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Wednesday, June 21st, 2017

The 2016-2017 Leadership Columbus graduation ceremony was held Tuesday, June 20th, at The Cunningham Center for Leadership Development. This is the 35th class to graduate from Leadership Columbus.

Leadership Columbus is a ten-month leadership training program of the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce. The program provides a learning experience for existing and emerging leaders to the region. Participants are given experiences and information to develop an understanding of the opportunities, challenges and problems of Columbus and the region. Class members gain a broader understanding of the complexities that our community represents and are better prepared to lead for a better future.

Participants had 10 full day sessions, preformed volunteer work, rode with a police officer, attended an art event, attended a board of education meeting, completed a public bus ride, attended a city council meeting and participated in a community service project while expanding their network by building friendships within their class and establishing relationships within the community.

The class also completed various community service projects in collaboration with the Chamber’s Youth Leadership Columbus Program which included work with Girls, Inc., Children’s Treehouse, Mercy Med, Open Door, Bibb City Community and Literacy Alliance. Collectively, the class provided over 200 hours of community service for the numerous projects.

Leadership Columbus is currently accepting applications for the 2017-2018 program, for more information visit, www.columbusgachamber.com/leadershipcolumbus
