Georgia CEO brings you the latest news from the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center at Augusta University. On Monday morning at 10:30 am, Gov. Nathan Deal broke ground on the new facility with a traditional, ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the construction of the much-anticipated, new Augusta Cyber Institute.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the official start of construction on the new 150,000-square-foot facility located adjacent to the Augusta University Riverfront. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal pledged a $50 million investment by the State for the world-class cyber range and training facility in January to be used for construction, staffing, planning, design, utilities and marketing.

The Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center will become the new home to the Augusta University Cyber Institute where representatives from academia, private industry and government will work together to establish new cybersecurity standards for the State. Augusta’s new Cyber Institute will provide for an estimated new 2,880 jobs, along with 9,836 military personnel for a total cyber workforce of 12,716 men and women.

Gov. Nathan Deal was joined by an esteemed group of leaders for the ceremony including Maj. Gen. John B. Morrison, Jr., Commanding General of U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon. Former U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, City of Augusta, Mayor Hardie Davis, and Calvin Rhodes, executive director and state chief information officer, Georgia Technology Authority were also in attendance.
