Columbus State University is partnering with WRBL-TV and PMB Broadcasting to host, televise and simulcast a series of political forums and debates in 2018.

Up to six events are being scheduled to host candidates vying for the Governor’s office, as well as those taking part in the Columbus mayoral election. The events will focus on the critical issues facing both the state of Georgia and the city of Columbus.

AFLAC and TSYS are sponsoring the series. Professors from CSU’s political science department, and reporters from WRBL will serve on panels questioning the candidates during the events. CSU communication students will assist in the production of the telecasts.

“I am pleased that Columbus State University can help provide opportunities for our community to learn more about the candidates running for office next year,” said CSU President Chris Markwood. “I believe that a lot of education takes place when people participate in the democratic process.”

All of the events will be at 7 p.m. in University Hall on CSU’s main campus. They will be televised live and be open to the public.

“News 3 has made a commitment once again this year to be the area's Local Election Headquarters," WRBL Vice-President and General Manager David Hart said. "This series will give our viewers the opportunity to have their questions for the candidates answered, giving the viewers the information they need to make an informed decision at the ballot box."

“PMB Broadcasting is excited to be a part of this important community partnership,” said Jim Martin, PMB Broadcasting Owner and General Manager. “Providing listeners access to these events is an important part of our local commitment to community service and we are proud to participate.”

The first forum is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 and will involve the Republican candidates vying to be Georgia’s next governor. The Democratic gubernatorial forum will take place at a date to be determined in April. The Columbus Mayoral candidates will debate on May 1.

Events featuring any candidates involved in a run-off will be scheduled between the primary and run-off elections and the nominees of each party will be invited back for a Gubernatorial Debate in October.
