Hamilton Relay Opens New Relay Center in Columbus

Staff Report From Columbus CEO

Thursday, June 28th, 2018

Hamilton Relay, a division of Hamilton Telecommunications based in Aurora, Nebraska, has opened a new Relay call center in Columbus, Georgia. The new center, which processes captioned telephone calls for individuals who are hard of hearing, began training classes and operations in April 2018. The center is located at 1501 13th Street in Columbus.

The Columbus call center is the seventh call center for Hamilton Relay and was added due to continued growth and demand for Captioned Telephone services nationwide. Captioned Telephone Service is designed specifically for individuals who have difficulty hearing over the telephone and allows users to listen while reading word-for-word captions of what’s being said to them on the display screen of a CapTel phone – similar to captions on television. Behind the scenes, Hamilton’s specially-trained Call Center Operators repeat everything said by the standard phone user into state-of-the-art voice recognition software. Those words are then converted into text that appears on the CapTel phone. Captions are available in English or Spanish. Hamilton has six other centers that process Traditional Relay and Captioned Telephone calls.

Hamilton has hired Supervisors, Trainers, HR staff, Technicians and Call Center Operators. The company is continuing to hire Call Center Operators with both full-time and part-time positions available. Shifts between 8 a.m. and 1 a.m. are available.

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from the community of Columbus and are excited to be settling into our new location,” said Dixie Ziegler, vice president of Hamilton Relay. “We have had a positive response to our job openings and we look forward to growing in Columbus.”

On Thursday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m., Hamilton Relay will be hosting a ribbon cutting and open house with the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
