Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus Hires New Executive Director
Friday, August 5th, 2022
The Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus is proud to announce that Kellie Henry has been hired as our new Executive Director. Kellie has been with the YOGC since the fall of 2021, serving as our Marketing Director. In that position, she has worked with our staff and board, attended rehearsals and events, and has kept everyone apprised of all our wonderful activities through social media. The Board has been so impressed with Kellie and her commitment to our students and this organization.
Kellie Henry received an Artist Diploma in Flute from The Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Valdosta State University, and studied privately for 6 years prior to collegiate studies. Post studies, she is an active performer, teacher, adjudicator, and clinician in the Southeastern United States. She has served as the Marketing Director for the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus, a board member and Social Media Manager for the Atlanta Flute Club, and an interviewer and flute adjudicator for the Georgia Governor's Honors Program.
Kellie’s professional performance career as an orchestral flutist spans multiple states. She was appointed 3rd Flute/Piccolo with the Albany (GA) Symphony Orchestra in 2017 and 2nd Flute with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra (NC) in 2019. Kellie also performs regularly as a substitute musician with numerous orchestras in the Southeast, most recently the Spartanburg Philharmonic (SC), Brevard Philharmonic (NC), Johnson City Symphony Orchestra (TN), Gwinnett Ballet Theater (GA), Symphony of the Mountains (TN, VA, and NC), and Valdosta Symphony Orchestra (GA) among others. Kellie has also collaborated and performed with names like Chris Brubeck and Triple Play, Steep Canyon Rangers, Boyz II Men, and Michael Bearden (Lady Gaga's current music director.)
The Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus has an exciting year coming for our community. We just finished our summer string camp, with more students attending than ever before in our 29 years of existence! We are bringing back the popular Pops concert in the spring and we hope (fingers crossed) to have more news to announce soon about a Christmas collaboration concert with a world renowned musical group. The past few years have been rough for all arts organizations, but YOGC has weathered that storm and we are ready for an amazing year providing top level instruction to our students.
Thank you to all that share our exciting news and announcements and please continue to share our posts on social media to let everyone know the amazing things the Youth Orchestra is accomplishing. If you have any questions about YOGC or want additional information, please contact Kellie Henry at [email protected]. We are so excited about this upcoming season and can’t wait to see you all soon!
