Thursday, August 3rd, 2023
Columbus Technical College, one of 22 institutions that make up the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated reveal of a new official mascot named Thrasher. CTC is the 13th TCSG college to brand with an official mascot.
Thrasher is a charismatic character embodying the college’s values and will symbolize CTC’s dedication to the greater good of the school and the communities in the six-county surrounding area. For many years to come, The Thrasher will serve as a cherished symbol for students, faculty, staff, community partners, and local, state and national supporters.
The final look and feel of the Thrasher involved the work of a talented team from several fields of endeavor - all working together - to honor the charge of designing with specific attention to capturing the spirit of CTC. Through the meticulous attention to detail exhibited by these individuals, the CTC mascot exudes a blend of school pride coupled with family friendliness. It was also important that The Thrasher project an aura of good cheer. The overall design incorporates details that were carefully curated to reflect the school's identity and resonate with target audiences. The mascot development team, led by CTC’s public relations and marketing staff and under the guidance of the TCSG contracts and legal team, included the following local Columbus and State of Georgia partners:
"We are delighted to introduce The Thrasher as the official ambassador for Columbus Technical College," said Denise Wells, Executive Director of Public Relations and Communications. "This vibrant character fully represents the college and will serve as a visible representation that audiences will intrinsically connect with. It is our sincere desire that this mascot will create a lasting impression and bring joy to all who encounter it."
To celebrate the creation of The Thrasher, Columbus Technical College combined the official mascot reveal ceremony with its annual Back To School Community Block Party. The event, held on Saturday, July 29, served nearly 200 residents of the Chattahoochee Valley and surrounding areas – including locally elected officials, TCSG and University System of Georgia leadership team members.
Martha Ann Todd, President of CTC said, “The Thrasher will serve as physical representation to the communities we serve of a deep and abiding pride associated with Columbus Tech and also as a reminder of our commitment to forging partnerships that will ultimately aid students and staff as they rise to meet the growing needs of the Chattahoochee Valley area industry and workforce.”
