Pastoral Institute Celebrates 50 Years of Inspiring Hope in Our Community

Staff Report

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024

Pastoral Institute proudly announces its 50th anniversary of providing counseling, mental wellness, and education services to the communities of the Chattahoochee Valley. Since its founding in 1974, the PI has been dedicated to fostering mental wellness and empowering individuals and families to thrive through its collective programs supporting employers and the regional workforce, congregations of faith, and nonprofit partners.

As the Institute commemorates this significant milestone, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our four visionary leaders whose dedication laid the foundation for our ongoing success. Founders William B. Turner, Richard Roberston, Herschel Allen, and Dr. George Zubowicz embarked on a mission to create a space where individuals could seek understanding and healing. Their pioneering spirit and commitment to mental health have inspired generations, and their legacy continues to influence the lives of those we serve. Today, we honor their vision and celebrate the countless achievements that have shaped our center into a beacon of hope.

To mark this momentous occasion which truly belongs to our community, we invite all to join us for an Open House Celebration and Customer Appreciation on October 1, 2024. The event will be held at the Pastoral Institute campus located at 2022 15th Avenue, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. All ages are welcome to come celebrate with us at this family-friendly event featuring:

  • Cake and Light Refreshment

  • Interactive Mental Wellness Activities

  • Scavenger Hunt for Chance to Win Prizes

  • “Ask Me About” Q&A Stations for Employee Assistance, Congregational Care, H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Endure) Funded Services, and Clinical Training

“We are deeply grateful to our founders for their visionary leadership and to our dedicated staff and community partners who have supported us throughout the years,” said Laura Cardin, Executive Director/CEO of the Pastoral Institute. “The Pastoral Institute has long been an act of love, who’s primary objective has been to meet human need and relieve human suffering. Though much has changed over the last fifty years, what remains constant is our desire to help people in their life journey that leads to thriving. By helping people heal, restore relationships, and cope with life’s many difficulties, we are meeting our mission together.”

This celebration, sponsored generously by our longtime Program Investor W.C. Bradley Company, will be an opportunity to reflect on the profound impact we’ve made over the past

five decades while looking forward to an exciting future of growth in service, collaboration, and mental health training and workforce development for our region and state.

"From the start, we have proudly supported the Pastoral Institute, a true cornerstone of hope for our community,” said James G. Hillenbrand, President and CEO of W.C. Bradley Co. “Their dedication to mental health and well-being has created a safe place for those in need, fostering resilience and growth. We are especially grateful for their employee assistance program, that has supported our team members for 50 years and those of other Columbus area employers. Together, we are building a healthier, more connected community.”
