Georgia's Pro-Business Climate Drives Investment and Job Creation in Key Industries

Nathan Deal announced yesterday that the Global Commerce division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) helped create a total of 26,951 new jobs and generate $4.75 billion in investment during FY15. This growth is a result of the expansion or relocation by 329 companies including those in software and technology, aerospace and food processing sectors.

Metro Columbus’ Unemployment Rate Rises to 7.5%

The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that Metro Columbus’ unemployment rate for July was 7.5 percent, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 7.4 percent in June. The rate in July 2014 was 8.8 percent.

Southern Company and AGL Resources today announced that the boards of directors of both companies have approved a definitive merger agreement to create America's leading U.S. electric and gas utility company. Pursuant to the agreement, AGL Resources will become a new wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company in a transaction with an enterprise value of approximately $12 billion, including a total equity value of approximately $8 billion.
