An Afternoon at the Movies to Benefit the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus
Press release from the issuing company
Monday, March 3rd, 2014
Sometimes a movie is best remembered by its musical score. You can hear some favorite movie themes like Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, Titanic and more while enjoying an elegant lunch buffet on Sunday, March 16th at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center. The hall will be transformed with Hollywood movie memorabilia and decorations but the real stars will be the young musicians of the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus.
An Afternoon at the Movies is a featured Artbeat 2014 event. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for children and the event is open to the public.
The YOGC string and symphony orchestras include top middle-and high-school musicians from across the Chattahoochee Valley. Students travel from as far away as Auburn to rehearse each Monday evening with conductor Jim Palmer. The ensembles perform three public concerts per season in addition to educational concerts which are attended by local school children, an annual summer string music camp, and this year the orchestra will bring together students from past years for a special alumni reunion concert in June in celebration of their 20th anniversary.
The organization is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit group, which depends solely on grants and the generosity of corporate, foundation, and individual donors for its funding.
To purchase tickets to the pops concert, donate to the organization or learn more about the YOGC, visit yogc.org or call executive director Dottie Brown at 706. 256.3614.
