Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

The Columbus Consolidated Government, Mayor Tomlinson, and the Mayor’s Commission for Passenger Rail are pleased to announce the completion of the Columbus to Atlanta High-Speed Rail Feasibility Study. This study was an initiative to explore the relative feasibility of high-speed passenger rail between Columbus and Atlanta. The CCG contracted with the consulting firm HNTB Corporation to conduct the study. Utilizing data, stakeholder input, and forecasting and planning tools, the study team developed passenger rail operating plans, ridership forecasts, operations and maintenance cost estimates, and capital cost estimates for various rail alternatives. The Columbus to Atlanta high speed passenger rail corridor is deemed feasible to move into the next planning phase.

Mayor Tomlinson would like to invite the public to a community meeting to learn about the Columbus to Atlanta High-Speed Passenger Rail Feasibility Study and its results. The Mayor’s Commission for Passenger Rail and representatives from the consultant staff will be available for a brief presentation of the study’s findings and a community question and answer session.
