Wednesday, May 21st, 2014
GMC Columbus will hold its annual Honors Convocation on Thursday, May 29, to recognize its exceptional students, faculty, and staff of 2013-2014. The ceremony will take place at Columbus State University’s Davidson Auditorium at 6:00 PM.
The public and members of the press are invited to attend.
The students being recognized will include GMC Columbus’ graduating class of 2014, President’s and Dean’s List recipients, Student Leaders, faculty-selected Outstanding Students, recipients of the Distinguished Order of the Servant Leader Award, and recipients of the Spotlight on Citizenship Award.
Dean of Academic Affairs Cathy Carter of Columbus believes Honors Convocation provides a special opportunity for honorees and their families. “We are so proud to honor our exceptional students here in their hometown. Because GMC’s graduation ceremonies are held in Milledgeville, we want students’ families and friends to have the opportunity to witness the recognition of their accomplishments locally,” Carter said. GMC Columbus’ Class of 2014 will also be honored at the institution-wide graduation ceremonies in Milledgeville on May 31, providing them multiple opportunities to receive accolades for their hard work. According to Carter, “recognizing the excellence of hard-working students reinforces their desires to succeed and to pursue their dreams.”
During the 2014 Honors Convocation, faculty and staff members who have provided exceptional service and proven their dedication to the success of the students of GMC Columbus will also receive recognition and awards, including Adjunct Professor of the Year, Educator of the Year, Character Educator of the Year, Employee of the Year, Columbus Faculty Member of the Year, and Columbus Staff Member of the Year.
