Georgia Military College has named Recruitment Coordinator Amanda Norman of Columbus the 2013-2014 GMC Columbus Employee of the Year. Norman received her award at GMC’s Memorial Day Parade in Milledgeville on May 23.
Norman was nominated to receive the award because of her “enthusiasm and excellence,” according to Columbus Campus Director Ron Hundley. “Amanda always exhibits an attitude and demeanor that reflects positively on GMC, on and off the clock,” added Hundley. Because of Norman’s outstanding efforts, GMC Columbus has “increased dual enrollments by over 1600% and fully tripled the number of Student Ambassador Applications we have received,” said Hundley. Additionally, Norman has developed an intensive training regimen for the Student Ambassador Program, including creating an online class portal and textbook.
Norman was “honored and excited” to learn that she had been selected as Employee of the Year. Norman’s work philosophy is “leave things better than you found them . . . [because] it takes time to put your ideas into action, but if it makes your work better, it’s worth it.” According to Norman, one of GMC’s greatest strengths is that “we try to help make education an obtainable goal for our students by giving them personalized support. We get to know our students as individuals and encourage them to go beyond what they thought was possible.”
Georgia Military College, the only public liberal arts junior college located in Columbus, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees.
