NCR to Help Stores Fight 'Scan & Scram' & 'Show Rooming'

Online retail giants like Amazon.com have been eating the lunch of bricks-and-mortar retailers thanks to their larger product selection, lower prices and free shipping.
But now tech giant NCR Corp. says it's found a new way to help bricks-and-mortar stores compete against online retailers.
In a patent application made public Thursday, Atlanta-based NCR says it's developed a technology that will let retailers deliver customized offers to shoppers who are in their stores as the shoppers search on their mobile devices for competing prices, "in an attempt to entice the consumer to buy the product at the store."
