Volunteers from BB&T recently teamed up with The Boys and Girls Clubs of Chattahoochee Valley to remodel and update the East Columbus Club Game Room. Associates from BB&T’s local branches volunteered approximately 80 hours of their time May 27th – 29th and donated $2,500 to help the Club refresh the Game Room and also purchased new equipment and games for the kids just in time for summer camp.

Rodney Close, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley commented on the project, “We are pleased to have great support from our community partners like BB&T and the Lighthouse Project is a great example of how we can work together to change lives right here in Columbus.  The improvements in the Game Room at the East Club are really going to make a huge impact on the kids who come to the Club this summer.”

“We wanted to work with The Boys & Girls Club because of the great work they do in our community,” said Eric Tikkanen, Market President. “We’re proud to team up with them and help in any way we can.”

The BB&T volunteers took part in the company’s sixth annual Lighthouse Project, where teams throughout BB&T select a project to assist a non-profit agency during May or June in order to make a positive impact on the lives of people in need. BB&T hopes their effort encourages others in the community to volunteer their time and support organizations such as The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley.

BB&T associates have donated more than 265,000 hours in volunteer service and touched the lives of more than 8 million people since the inception of the BB&T Lighthouse Project in 2009. Associates overwhelmingly voted to bring back the initiative this year.  For more information about the Lighthouse Project, go to www.bbt.com/bbt/lighthouseproject/.
