Batson-Cook recently completed construction of Orchard View, a $28 million assisted living facility in Columbus, Georgia. Known for its innovative “neighborhood” design, Orchard View will provide a new home for 200 residents.
Led by the Hospital Authority of Columbus and Aaron & Clements Construction Management Services, also of Columbus, Batson-Cook constructed individual service areas for both Rehabilitation and Memory Care patients. Each building will combine long-term care necessities like nurses stations with standard amenities for all residents, like dining facilities and living room areas. The home-like environments in each unit will feature stone electric fireplaces, spa tubs and showers, high-end window treatments, and more.
“The owner's vision for the Orchard View project was to provide the best possible mix of sustainability and quality with a program based on the skilled nursing sector's culture change movement,” stated Ryan Clements, Vice President of Aaron & Clements. “Working with the owner and design team from the outset of planning and design through completion of the project, the Batson-Cook team worked creatively and tirelessly in delivering a quality product for the owner.”
The “town center” of the Orchard View neighborhood is a 165,000-square-foot rehabilitation center that provides general therapies. This building will include a rehabilitation gymnasium and an aqua therapy room as well as a salon and chapel. An outdoor rehabilitation courtyard has been constructed with different walking surfaces to simulate various terrains. The open-air facilities also include various patios and orchard gardens. In all, Orchard View will offer residents a substantial culture change from most existing skilled nursing facilities.
“Our partners at Hecht Burdeshaw Architects of Columbus and D2 Architecture of Dallas have used their insight into the long-term healthcare wants and needs of the community, eliminating the institutional feel, which is stereotypical for similar facilities,” said Batson-Cook Project Manager Eddie Sanders. “As a result of this design, we were able to build a true community for the residents.”
